Nathan Scott is a fictional character on the CW television series One Tree Hill, played by James Lafferty. Nathan is Lucas Scott’s half brother and Haley James’s husband.
[edit] Biography
Nathan Scott attends Tree Hill High School; he is an athlete and is the star player of the Ravens basketball team. He is the son of Dan (Paul Johansson) and Deb Scott (Barbara Alyn Woods), and the nephew of Keith Scott (Craig Sheffer) and Cooper Lee (Michael Trucco). He has an elder half brother from his fathers relationship with Karen Roe (Moira Kelly), Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray). At the beginning of the series, he was the boyfriend of Peyton Sawyer (Hilarie Burton). They soon ended their relationship stating that they were never in love and Peyton realised how much of a bully he was towards his Brother, and she didn't want to end up like Karen, who was left by Nathan's father Dan.
He soon had troubles with his practically unknown half brother Lucas because he was newly added to the basketball team and his father Dan made him cause Lucas hell. As Lucas took his position on the team and he was moved to small forward. He led the team in a hazing session on Lucas so that Lucas would eventually quote the team. But after Haley, Lucas's best friend made a deal to tutor him only if he left Lucas alone, he began to ease up on Lucas, with regards to public humiliations. And at the start of his professional relationship with Nathan, it is clear that at first he only went after Haley because he knew that could possibly hurt Lucas more. But his involvement with Haley actually has a profound affect on his personality, and he begins to open up and steer away from the bully that we saw earlier in the season. Because of this and Haley the brothers eventually improve their relationship and become really close, and they both team up against their father.
Nathan also becomes legally emancipated from his parents as his parents decide to split. Nathan at first wants to stay with his mother as she is not so demanding as Dan, and generally has Nathan's well being at mind, as opposed to Dan's drive to make Nathan a great basketball player. But discovers that she had an affair, which he says was a betrayal of him, more than his father. Not wanting to move in with Dan he discovers that there is a way for him to live by himself, which he sees as the most attractive option.
He met up with Haley James (Bethany Joy Galeotti), Lucas's best friend earlier on in the season, and throughout the season they eventually fall in love. The couple get married at the season one finale. The couple's marriage problems surface in the second season with Haley's fruiting musical talent. Which at first is encouraged by Nathan, but soon realises that their dreams could tear them apart. Their marriage hits the rocks when Haley meets Chris Keller (Tyler Hilton), they share a chemistry in their music and this causes problems for Nathan because that is something that isn't there between him and Haley, and it appears that Haley is concentrating more on her music than their marriage. Eventually she leaves with Chris Keller and The Wreckers and Gavin DeGraw to go on tour. This breaks Nathan's heart and sets him on a downward spiral, culminating in a high speed crash at Cooper Lee's race track. He recovers and gets into the Basketball course for High school star players, "Highflyers", and decides to go. but at the end of the season two finale Haley is at his door.
At the beginning of the third season, we discover Nathan still goes to "Highflyers" for the summer and at the start of the season Nathan decides whether he should, and if he could trust Haley again. He finally makes his decision later on in the season and Nathan and Haley become a couple again. After a school shooting and the impact of Keith Scott dying Nathan decides to ask Haley if she wants to renew their marriage in front of their loved ones. The wedding took place in the season three finale, and a shocking cliffhanger takes place where Haley might be pregnant and Nathan's fate is unknown after a car crash.
In the fourth season premiere, we find out Nathan survives but has recurring memories of almost dying while trying to save Rachel Gatina (Danneel Harris) and his uncle Cooper. Later on, Nathan earns a scholarship to Duke. But doesn't accept it right away. Having just found out that Haley is pregnant, Nathan decides to wait on making his decision because he has a family to think about now.
Nathan and Haley are experiencing some financial trouble. A mysterious guy named Duante shows up to town and offers to help Nathan out. Having been turned down by his father, Dan Scott. Nathan turns to Duante for a loan to help pay off some debts. But the deal comes with strings attached as Nathan later finds out. He is first asked to shave a few points off a semi-final game and he reluctantly does. Believing this one time will solve his troubles with Duante. But Duante isn't satisfied and tells Nathan he must also lose the state championship. Nathan turns to Dan for help again. Dan, this time around, does try to help his son but it is too little too late and Dan tells Nathan he must throw away the state championships.
Nathan later tells his brother, Lucas, that they must lose the state championship and Lucas is devastated and refuses to continue going along with this.
It is finally the state championship game. Lucas and Skills try to freeze Nathan from the game so he won't try to throw the game away for himself to go to Duke. At half-time, he talks to Haley and she tells him he's having a son! Nathan plays the game of his life and in the end, the Ravens win the basketball game against a team called the Pontiacs. Daunte, infuriated, attempts to run Nathan over after the game. Haley pushes Nathan out of the way and is hit. However, Daunte crashes into a construction site. Nathan, outraged, runs to his car to beat him up. Nathan pulls a badly injured Duante from the smashed up car and proceeds to punch him over and over. Nathan is stopped by Dan, who tells him he killed Daunte. Although, it isn't clear as to whether Daunte had died from the impact of the crash or the beating Nathan gives him. Dan advises his son to help his wife and Dan is the one seen by the police standing over Daunte's body and the car wreck.
