Dr. Nathan Hare

On April 9, 1933 in Slick, Oklahoma Nathan Hare was ushered into this world. In this country is where Nathan Hare became one the most eminent doctors of sociology and psychotherapy. Dr. Hare got an A.B. degree in sociology from Langston University, Langston, Oklahoma; and two M.A.’s plus one P.H.D in sociology from the University of Chicago which he used to progress Black studies. Dr. Nathan Hare also was awarded his PhD in clinical psychology from the California school of Professional Psychology located in Berkeley, California in 1975 well after his award winning career had started and after establishing a real sense of mastery in sociology and psychology. Nathan Hare never actually intended the path that he took when he first started in the adult world. He actually planned a career as a professional boxer, but changed plans when suggested to do so by his teacher. His high school teacher said he should consider attending college and Nathan headed that advice. In college Nathan began his concentration in English but after taking sociology classes switched his major to sociology. Nathan began his outstanding career as an instructor and assistant professor in sociology at Howard University in Washington, D.C. 1961.and is directly related to establishing and expanding Black Studies courses. He started the first black studies courses at San Francisco State College subsequently became a template for course work of black studies nationally. He also became the founding publisher of the “The Black Scholar” from 1969-1975 to express his and others thoughts in Black Studies. Dr. Hare and his wife Julia Hare established the Black Think Tank in 1979, this focuses on issues affecting the black family in today’s society. Throughout his career he has also became a notable author on such subjects as the black family and relationship advice between black men and women. He is also the recipient of several awards including the Joseph Hines, N.A.B.S., Black college Hall of Fame among others. Hare is still actively working to further the depth and realm of all scholarly black studies nationally.
