[edit] Template-based infobox

FYI: We have worked out a new template-based infobox (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected Areas/Infobox) with some pretty slick features (such as a blank base-map with a floating dot -- makes separate maps for each article unneccessary). A user is looking into similar style base maps for other countries besides the U.S. — Eoghanacht talk 12:33, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Groan. I saw them earlier, I wish I had come around to bothering with this now instead of six weeks ago. I think the new infobox is a significant improvement, my only concern is about fine-tuning the location of the dot. Martyman should have an SVG map of Australia in his collection (but he appears to have uploaded PNG versions). - Diceman 13:36, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

I know what you mean. Eventually I will be replacing infobox tables on many articles I created. But the new template has only been used on a couple articles so far--with my intent to keep it to a small list for a couple weeks for bugs-testing and "second thoughts." Feel free to add questions about the locator dot on the template talk page. I think the dot is a great idea, but I had had some minor reservations about it myself. — Eoghanacht talk 15:07, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Here's an SVG locator to start with, in Wikipedia-standard colors. And I second the request about the locator dot; I really want that to be a useful, simple, completely optional feature, so if it's not easy to understand or use please leave a comment there. I do welcome the feedback and will work to improve it if needed. Thanks, —Papayoung 06:20, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Here is a sample of the infobox template for Organ Pipes National Park. Note that many of the fields are optional, and I made up some information just for demonstration purposes. — Eoghanacht talk 14:25, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

I'll put this here in case anybody strolls across this page and wants to help out. Diceman 15:33, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
