Nara Dreamland
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nara Dreamland (奈良ドリームランド Nara Dorīmurando?) was a theme park near Nara, Japan which was built in 1961 and inspired by Disneyland in California. Its premier ride was Aska, a wooden roller coaster. However, fans of Disneyland may find the recreations of icons such as Sleeping Beauty Castle to be an amusement simply by the virtue of imitation. On August 31 2006, Nara Dreamland closed permanently
An urban legend states that Walt Disney was so unhappy to hear about Dreamland that he rejected talks with Japanese companies that were seeking his cooperation in bringing the experience of a Disney park to Japan. Tokyo Disneyland would open approximately 22 years later.
