[edit] History
In 1905, a firm called Atelierul Vlad (The Vlad Workshop) was founded in Cluj-Napoca to produce milk products, at the time making butter and cheese. Over time, the business was developed, and by 1936, they were also producing yoghurt, and both fermented and spreadable cheese. Following nationalisation in 1936, Vlad became Întreprinderea de Industrializarea Laptelui Cluj (The Cluj Milk Industrialisation Enterprise). In 1990, that association became Napolact.
[edit] Production and Distribution
Production is realised in the Fabrica de produse lactate Baciu (The Baciu Milk Products Factory), the Fabrica de brânzeturi fermentate şi frământate (The Fermented and Whipped Cheese Factory), the Fabrica de produse lactate Dej (The Dej Milk Products Factory), the Fabrica de brânzeturi Huedin (The Huedin Cheese Factory), and the Fabrica de brânzeturi Ţaga (The Ţaga Cheese Factory). Distribution is handled by stores and warehouses in Cluj-Napoca and Bucharest.
[edit] Expansion and Modernisation
Beginning in 1990, the association has passed through many modernisation programmes. The putting in place of European standards, especially in the Baciu and Huedin factories, has enabled the development of export to the European Union and the United States.
[edit] Products
The portfolio of Napolact products includes all of the major milk products, such as:
- milk (Cedra ®)
- lactic acid (Napoca ®, Napolife ®, Cedra ®)
- fresh cheese
- butter
- powdered milk
- pickled cheese (Huedin ®)
- ice cream (Fiesta Premium, White Napoca, Napoca de Lux ®, Napoca ®, Scufiţa Roşie, Mix, Delicatesse, and others)
Napolact's yoghurts are made with milk and yoghurt ferments and do not contain additives.
[edit] Exports and Markets
Since as early as the beginnings of the firm, Napolact has been exporting products like telemea cheese, sheep's milk, buffalo milk, cows' milk, sheep caşcaval cheese, parmesan, as well as cow caşcaval cheese to the European Union, USA, Australia, and Lebanon. However, the main market continues to be that of Romania which is nearly entirely covered [1]. Napolact continues to be the leader in Romania's milk industry.
[edit] Awards
Beginning in 1994, Napolact has obtained a series of awards and distinctions on behalf of the Romanian government to acknowledge the production quality. In 2003, Napolact received first place in the food industry category, the large enterprises category, and the tenth diploma of eminence of the Topului Naţional al Firmelor (Top National Firms).
