Naomi Tani (谷ナオミ - Tani Naomi) (October 20, 1948 - ) is a Japanese actress who is best known for her appearances in Nikkatsu Roman Porno films with an S&M theme during the 1970s.

Born in Fukuoka, Naomi Tani moved to Tokyo at the age of 18. Her debut was in the 1967 film Special. Her screen name came from the novelist Junichiro Tanizaki and "Naomi," the central character in his important, early work A Fool's Love. Her voluptuous 96-60-90cm (38-24-35) figure as well as her acting abilities helped make her popular, and she reportedly appeared in more than 200 films before her first film at Nikkatsu. She directed her 1972 film, Sex Killer. Sensuous Beasts (1972) was her first movie for Nikkatsu, but it was her second film for the studio, Flower and Snake (1974), which established the S&M genre of Roman Porno film which would give the studio success throughout the 1970s. Based on a novel by popular S&M writer, Oniroku Dan, the film became a major hit. Her next film, Wife to be Sacrificed (1974) was one of Nikkatsu's top five films. Though she had appeared in comedies, dramas, and action films, after these two successes, Tani came to the realization that, as she put it, "S&M was my destiny." [1]

After five years of making similar movies for Nikkatsu, many with director Masaru Konuma, she retired suddenly and unexpectedly at the height of her popularity in 1979. She later gave her reason as, "I never wanted to disappoint my fans by showing an unflattering face. That's why I've always refused to do a comeback. Nobody is free from aging. I want to exist in the audience's memory as a forever blooming flower." [2] During her retirement she opened a restaurant, the Ohtani in Kumamoto, and finally came back to film in 2000 when she appeared in Masaru Konuma's documentary on Nakata Hideo entitled Sadistic and Masochistic. [3] She currently owns a club in Kumamoto.
