Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Football in Australia)

A proposal's status is not determined simply by counting votes.

Comment I am not claiming to dictate a standard to other people. I am suggesting the following based on multiple past discussions with other Wikipedians whom these naming standards affect. It would be good to centralise discussion on this topic in a single place, not on hundreds of different talk pages, WikiProject and Notice Board pages.

I would like to suggest that changes to this page be first discussed at at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Football in Australia) - otherwise I can see this page becoming an edit war. Please do not make changes to this page (apart from formatting and grammatical changes, etc). -- Chuq 10:13, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Terms for football codes

The four main football codes should be referred to as:

Other less popular codes, which should also be disambiguated using the below rules:

[edit] Article names

  • In an article that only relates to one of these codes, the above name should be used in the title (if the word "football" is in the title) and the first paragraph. The word "football" can be used throughout the rest of the article.
  • In an article that relates to more than one of these, the terms above should be used throughout the article.
