Nammalwar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nammalwar is one of the 12 Alwars of Vaishnavism, who sang in praise of Lord Vishnu. Nammalwar was born in the Appankoil hamlet near Alwartirunagari, as the son of Karimaharaja, who was childless for long. The compositions of Alwars are compiled and called Naalaayira Dhivyaprabhantham, meaning four thousand poems. The tamarind tree in the Adinathar Temple at Alwartirunagari symbolises Nammalwar even today.
