Nam Theun II or NT2 is a dam planned for the Nam Theun river in Laos. It is the largest hydropower project in the history of the country and is planned to export power to Thailand as well as fulfil domestic demands. It has also been very controversial, as it threatens to flood a large area of land and cause the displacement of some 6,200 people. The dam also marks the return by the World Bank to funding large-scale infrastructure, after a decade-long hiatus.

The project, backed by the World Bank, began in 1993. The main partners are Electricite de France International, Electricite du Laos and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand
