[edit] Plot summary
The movie opens with an unrelated assassination of a man. A sexy female assassin walks into the room and kills a man by breaking his spine. After a daring escape the assassin is unexpectly wounded by a car bomb. Officer Jack Chen arrives at the scene in an attempt to take her for questioning. However she is mysteriously killed by a woman dressed in black. We later learn she is Madam M, the assassin's mentor.
Young girls across the globe mysteriously disappear one by one. The only relationship between the girls is that they are all trained in martial arts. These girls are then transported to an island for "secret" training. It turns out the girls were abducted by Madam M in order to be trained as female assassins. After several years of gruesome training, only Charlene (Maggie Q), Katt (Anya Wu) and Jing (Jewel Lee) survive to become the deadliest female assassins in the world. Charlene and Katt develop a special bond and remain relatively human while Jing is transformed into a cold-blooded killer.
They are sent on several missions where they rely on each other to survive. The first mission involved killing a man. Charlene uses the same fashion of assassination seen in the opening scene. On her second mission, Charlene miracuously and unawaringly collides with her mother, Faye Ching (Pei-pei Cheng), after a successful assassination. Officer Jack Chen hunts for the assassin and runs into Charlene. The two of them form a quick relationship. Jack informs Charlene that her mother is still alive and is looking for her. Charlene knocks Jack out and escapes.
The meeting of Charlene's mother is unsettling to Charlene, so she searches for Faye in an attempt rekindle the parental bond. However, Jing attempts to stop the reunion by murdering Faye. Jack Chen, aware of the danger Faye is in, stakes out her house in order to protect her. Jing attacks and is thwarted by Chen and Charlene's combined effort. Jing does manage to severely wound Faye forcing Charlene and Jack to take her to the hospital. During this trip to the hospital Jack and Charlene strengthen their relationship.
Madam M receives a final mission for the two girls from a Japanese gang leader, Ryuchi (Andrew Lin). The mission ends up being a trap that was created to capture the assassins of the man assassinated in their first mission. Apparently that man had a relationship with Ryuchi. Ryuchi kills Madam M, captures Katt, and manages to shoot Charlene with an aphrodisiac before she escapes. In a drug induced lust, Charlene runs into Jack and sleeps with him. When Jack wakes up in the morning Charlene has left to seek revenge on Ryuchi and leaves him a love letter.
Upon her second confrontation, Ryuchi begins by killing Katt with a sword. Enraged, Charlene battles Ryuchi to the death. Ryuchi manages to blind Charlene, however Charlene still kills Ryuchi in the end by breaking his spine.
