Nakajō (中条町; -machi) is a town located in Kitakanbara District, Niigata, Japan.

As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 27,026 and a density of 319.53 persons per km². The total area is 84.58 km².

Nakajo no longer exists now as the adjoining village Kurokawa and Nakajo formed a new city of Tainai in early 2005. Tainai City has a population of approximately 33,000.

Nakajo was the home of a Southern Illinois University Carbondale study abroad program until late 2006, when the company NSG which bought out the school decided to close the program. The buildings have since become a very small school for high school and college English majors.

The climate is very similar to Niigata City about 26 miles away. It is known for its short grain rice famous all throughout Japan. Tainai City is located in the foothills of the Japanese Alps; mountains of about 1000 feet in height are visible from all locations within the town. The mining island of Sado Island is also viewable on clear days.
