Náttfari

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Náttfari (nightwalker) escaped from Gardar Svavarsson with a slave and a woman when Gardar Svavarson set sail to Norway from his new found land which he named Gardarsholmur, now known as Iceland, in the 9th century.

Svavarsson reached the shores of Iceland on the north coast, near Húsavík. Náttfari, as stated before, escaped with a slave and an Ambátt (female slave) and found a place for himself to live, nowadays known as Náttfaravíkur (Nightwalker's Creeks), which are situated directly opposite to the town of Húsavík, in the Skjálfandi Bay.
