Mystery (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mystery is a humorous song by Hugh Laurie about a woman he loves, in which the last word of each line of the song rhymes. It is seen in the pilot episode[1] of the television series A Bit of Fry and Laurie. The humour arises from the path the narrative is driven by the deliberately forced-sounding rhymes.

Hugh Laurie recently performed this song on "Inside the Actors Studio" upon the request of host James Lipton. The changes made to the song were that he updated her death from 1973 to 1993 and the subsequent length of time she's been dead. Instead of working for the Thames Water Authority he worked for the Port Authority and swapping 'Taken a violent dislike to me' and 'Hated me' in the fourth verse.
