Mykyrokka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mykyrokka is a soup that is a typical traditional dish in Middle-Finland (Savo region). The main ingredient is myky: a palm sized dumpling made from blood and rye flour. The dumplings are cooked in the soup and are the best part of it. The soup also contains potatoes, onion, fatty meat, and offal such as kidneys, liver, and/or heart.

This soup is also called tappaiskeitto i.e. "butchery soup", referring to old farm custom of autumn butchery when some animals were butchered and made to be sausages, hams, etc. and what was left was put into the soup.
