Mykolas Romeris University

Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuanian: Mykolo Romerio universitetas or MRU) is a university in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Originally the Vilnius Faculty of militsiya school in Minsk, it has been known by several names: the Police Academy of Lithuania, the Law Academy of Lithuania, and the Law University of Lithuania. In 2004 it was renamed Mykolas Romeris University, after a prominent lawyer of interbellum Lithuania, Mykolas Römeris. It is now the third largest university in Lithuania, with over 16,000 students in 2006/2007.

The university consists of 6 faculties and 39 departments. It offers programs at the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels. The The major fields of study are Law, Public Administration, Social Work, Economics and Psychology.

As part of its focus on developing law in the European Union, courses are offered in English, German and French, as well as in Lithuanian.

University staff and PhD students counsel Lithuanian citizens on legal and social issues at the Vilnius Legal Aid Center and at outreach centers throughout the country. Each month the team reaches out to the remote districts of the country. The beneficiaries of this program now total 40,000. The university also sponsors a Crime Victim Care Association.
