My Buddy (doll)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The My Buddy doll line was made by Hasbro in 1985. The idea was to make a doll to appeal to little boys. Hasbro also introduced a companion "Kid Sister" for girls. Hasbro discontinued the line before the start of the 1990s and Playskool took over production, they even made changes to the likeness and clothing.

[edit] Description

My Buddy during his initial run had all these characteristics:

  • Red baseball cap
  • Red/Blonde/Brown/Black Hair
  • Red and Yellow striped long sleeve shirt
  • Blue overalls with "My Buddy" logo on chest
  • White shoes with red stripe
  • The whole doll (besides head) was stuffed fabric.
  • Face had blue or brown eyes, freckles, "button" nose, and smile

[edit] Modifications

The dolls released by Playskool in the 90s were made with unremovable clothing sewn directly onto the doll's body. The new Kid Sister was also released with clothes sewn onto the body, despite complaints that it made it hard to dress it in different outfits. This was done to reduce the extra cost of having to produce clothes seperately, so it was all kept on one assembly line.

[edit] Child's Play connection

The My Buddy doll is widely considered the inspiration for Chucky from the Child's Play movies; this is supported by the fact that both dolls are very similar in look and design. [citation needed]
