Double Round Robin of 30 games each. Champion promoted, bottom two teams relegated.

2nd to 4th qualify for Promotion play-offs.

The Mvela Golden League a.k.a. MGL is the trading name of the National First Division of South African club football (soccer) established from the 2004/2005 season by business magnate Tokyo Sexwale's Mvelaphanda Holdings. It is the second highest league in South Africa. Andrew Dipela is the current GM.

After the 2004/2005 season, the league was reduced from 18 to 16 teams.

Italian sports manufacturer Diadora provides the playing kits for all 16 clubs.
