MV Isle of Lewis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MV Isle of Lewis is a ship operated by Caledonian MacBrayne, the Clyde and Hebridean Isles ferry operator. She is currently the only Calmac ship over 100 metres in length, coming in at 101m.
She can carry 680 passengers and 123 cars across The Minch from Ullapool, Ross-shire to Stornoway on her namesake, the Isle of Lewis. She has to endure sometimes treacherous seas; the Minch being one of the most exposed areas in the British Isles.
In recent years, there have been a number of rumours that she will be replaced on the route by an even larger vessel to cope with ever increasing amounts of traffic on the crossing, although no developments have followed.
