Mutate (comics)

Mutate can refer to two groups of beings in the Marvel Comics universe.

The first is a group of Mutants native to the Savage Land, trained by Magneto. For that group, see Savage Land Mutates.

The second group of Mutates are Mutants physically and psychically conditioned to become slaves for Genosha. The "Mutate Process" (or "Bonding Process") was originally developed by Genegineer David Moreau, though later retcons revealed it to have originally been created by Sugar Man.

Mutate is also a term used to refer to superhumans who acquired their innate superpowers by exposure to some mutagenic compound (either accidentally or deliberately); compare to Marvel's Mutants, who manifest their powers without any external stimuli.
