Any thoughts on whether songs about the state should get mentioned in these "Music of [state]" articles? Jkelly 04:40, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've thought about it before, but decided against it. My main concern is that few people are likely to have written much about them. I can't think of any Minnesota examples off the top of my head, but take a hypothetical Dylan song called "Home in Minneapolis"... What would we put in this article, then? "Bob Dylan's "Home in Minnesota" is a song about Minnesota" -- anything more would be OR, unless there happens to be a review that talks about how that song depicts and reflects Minnesota, which I imagine there rarely is. I believe there are film articles a la List of films set in Minnesota, and I think something similar should be done here (List of songs about Minnesota). A paragraph might be useful for a few special cases, though, like Music of New York City and Music of California, since songs about those places are so common and so iconic (probably relatively easy to find something verifiable to cite too). - They're in the infobox, but I've never found anything with much of a story behind them. Music of Maryland is featured, and mentions "Maryland, My Maryland" in the history section, but doesn't really cover the song, which is marginally notable outside of being a state song (and that's more than most state songs). Music of New Hampshire and some other stubby ones talk about the state song, but that's only because they're so stubby and there's not much else to write about. I thought about putting "Hail! Minnesota" into the history section, since we actually have an article on it, but I couldn't think of a way to work it in without it looking like filler, and without some kind of historical analysis of the song, that's all it would be. [edit] Hey....what about:
Dillinger Four and The Soviettes! These are two prolific and highly influential rock bands from Minnesota! Both are still active and still worth mentioning! I'm a huge fan of both bands, and would love to see them included in this article! Madangry 01:00, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
