Mushroom Jazz is a musical style mainly defined by Chicago DJ Mark Farina. It is a slighty different form of hip-hop, closer to house music in its production techniques and tones. Farina made the term a household name in American electronic music circles through his Mushroom Jazz series on Om Records. The series consists of 5 cd's recorded in mix-tape style. The albums consist of varied genres of music, all of which are mainly influenced by jazz and funk. Old school, and underground hip-hop rappers, or producers play a large role however, the undescriminating style of DJ Mark Farina combines house, trip-hop and reggae classics throughout.
