Museum of Industry and Labor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Museum of Industry and Labor, located in Youngstown, Ohio, preserves the history of the steel industry which dominated the Youngstown area for much of the 20th century. The museum is operated by the Ohio Historical Society.

The museum is noted for its architecture, which is reminiscent of a steel mill, complete with smoke stacks.

The Museum has been plauged with problems since it opened; much of the time there are complaints that there is low patronage at the museum and that it is relatively unknown to even residents of the Mahoning Valley. One could argue that the reason so few people go is because their hours, 9:30-5:00 from Wednesday to Saturday and 12:00-5:00 on Sundays and holidays, do not make it accessible enough for people, as these are typically hours when many are at work. Nevertheless, the OHS continues to support it, and has survived rumors that it might close.
