Murray Warmath

Murray Warmath was the head coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football program from 1954 to 1971. During his successful tenure, he compiled a 87-78-2 (.526) record, three eight-win seasons and its last national championship in 1960. Warmath was name the national coach of the year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association and led the Golden Gophers to their last Rose Bowl in 1962. Before coaching the Gophers, Warmath spent two seasons (1952-53) as head coach Mississippi State University. He played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers under legendary coach Robert Neyland.
