Munsiyari

Munsiyari is a place situated on the northern part near the great Himalayan wall, of Pithoragarh district, Uttaranchal state, India, at a distance of 124km.' Munsiyari, literally means the place with snow. Munsiyari is one of district's Tehsil and Sub Division. It is situated on the banks of Goriganga river. Munsiyari is a fast growing tourist destination for nature lovers and trekkers. Glacier enthusiasts and high altitude trekkers commonly use it as their base camp. Munsiyari is located on the ancient 'salt route' from Tibet. Munsiyari is at the entrance of the Johar valley which extends along the path of the Goriganga river to its source at Milam Glacier. It is inhabited mainly by the Shauka people (referred to as Bhotiya by the non-Shaukas), who are its original natives.
