Murli Prasad Sharma aka Munna Bhai is a character from the popular Bollywood series of films directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vinod Chopra Productions: Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003) and Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006). Munna Bhai, and his sidekick Circuit, form the integral part of the series. Munna Bhai's formal name is "Murli Prasad Sharma."

The character of Munna Bhai is portrayed by Sanjay Dutt and is shaped as a bhai or a Tapori - a leader in the Mumbai underworld (the word "bhai" can also mean "brother." His sidekick, or consigliere is Circuit (portrayed by Arshad Warsi). The films are comedies which lack realistic scenes of violence. Munna Bhai speaks in Bambaiya Hindi - the colloquial Hindi language of Mumbai.

Munna Bhai was first introduced in the 2003 film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. which involves his adventures as a faux-medical student. In the second movie, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Munna Bhai becomes a faux-professor, helping people solve their problems through Gandhism — the practice and principles of Mahatma Gandhi. This film led to the popular use of a new term — Gandhigiri.

The relationship between Munna Bhai and Circuit has been likened to Laurel and Hardy films by some. [1] Others have negated this comparison, saying that it is more akin to the Road to... "buddy films" of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. [2]
