Municipalities of Chile

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chile is divided into 346 municipalities (Spanish: "Comuna", pl. "Comunas"). The territory of the municipality is called "comuna" (Commune) and its jurisdictional authority is called "municipalidad" (Municipality). Each municipality is headed by a Mayor ("Alcalde"), elected for a period of four years.

Chilean municipalities are located within 51 provinces grouped into 13 regions**.
