Pile-ups in thick fog can be avoided for a long time, by using the FOG / STOP alarmsystem ARFF. In 1991 the alarmsystem was on the agenda of the GRE. in 1994 it was the dutch minister of road safety mrs. May-Weggen who told that what is not standing in the law can not be prohibited as wel as the Attorney- General of the court of Amsterdam. The same outcome in the trial proces in 1997 by the police judge in Rotterdam. All the international testers by the research in the fog labority in Clermont Ferrand (France)1999, found out that a blinking rear foglight by braking when the rear foglight is switched on (not by driving slowly and stand stil on the motorway) and by braking hard in general (when the rear foglight is not switched on is by far the best solution, to avoid the rear-end collisions. Also the High Level Group Road Safety from te European Commission took a positive attitude to both devices seeing then as a valuable contribution to road safety. In the case of the flashing fog/stop light it was confirmed that its fitting to vehicles did not conflict with rules for international traffic Vienna Convention.
