Talk:Multimedia literacy

The notice on the page suggests deletion on the grounds that the material is covered elsewhere in the Wikipedia. Where? Or is it suggested that it be cut an pasted elsewhere? Can't have a discussion in the absence of information. Travers

[edit] The AFD
The AFD on this page has been closed. I thought the initial referral was supercilious and much of the debate was of surprisingly low quality. archive of discussion can be seen here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Multimedia_literacy
Enough said. AdelaideRandel 07:15, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- On to a more constructive discussion.
prehaps while this artlice should not be deleted prehaps the following articles can be merged with it or at least linked
also an outline of Multimedia Literacy could be added here and a link placed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education#Technology_and_Education
also am unsure on the relevance of the images, can better ones be found? AdelaideRandel 09:38, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
As to merging and linking, it makes sense to connect better, but I am not clear what the best wikipedia approach is. Just had a look at the links above, and the whole story is a bit of a mess with overlaping material, including multimedia literacy. Requires a god like person to bring it all together?
MM literacy could be a subset of Literacy, but that leads to an excessively long entry, especially if every other kind of 'literacy' comes under this heading. It also does nothing to resolve the problem of the four topics above plus multimedia and a few others no doubt. The field is blighted by too many terms that have ambiguous and varied meanings. I tend towards the notion of building on multimedia literacy because it seems to be widely used and has a more solid meaning than the four above. But I would have difficulty defending the above!
Not married to the images: but rather like the soccer animation which neatly demonstrates the power of animation. This topic lends itself to graphics telling the story better than words, so would be good to have a set of images that represent a range of examples. Travers 11:14, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Well I believe the Wikipedia convention is for MM literacy to be a Daughter article of literacy. That is a small outline of MM literacy is placed in the literacy article and it is linked to a longer article that fleshes out the details. As for the images I suppose they are not really a big deal.
I would suggest that one of the many terms for MM literacy is decided on as the “correct term” and the rest are either deleted and the pages redirected to that term. Or perhaps a short statement like,
Technological literacy is also known by the name of electronic learning, whatever and whatever. To read more on the subject see MM literacy (or whatever term is decided apon)
