Multiple (mathematics)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A multiple of a number is the product of that number with any integer.
a is a multiple of b iff a/b is an integer.
The set of all multiples of x can be defined as xN where N is the set of all integers.
[edit] Examples
- 14, 49, and -21 are multiples of 7 whereas -3, 15, and 20 are not multiples of 7
- The multiples of 3 form the infinite set: {...,-9, -6, -3, 0, 3, 6, 9,...}.
eg
multiples of 6 are 6,12,18,24 and 30
[edit] Properties
- Every number is a multiple of itself (n * 1 = n).
- 0 is a multiple of every number (n * 0 = 0).
- If a and b are multiples of x, then a + b, a − b and a * b are multiples of x.
- 2: 2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24,26,28,30,32,34,36,38,40,42,44,46,48,50
