Mullaghbane

Mullaghbane (more correctly,Mullaghbawn) is a small village in County Armagh, Northern Ireland near the border with the Republic of Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 402 people. It lies within the Newry and Mourne District Council area near Forkhill, at the base of Slieve Gullion.

  • Mullaghbane Folk Museum is a traditional two roomed thatched farm house and out buildings, restored by the Mullaghbane Historical Group during the 1970s and filled with artifacts depicting the social and economic life-styles of the people of the Ring of Gullion in the last century.
  • Ti Chulainn Cultural Activity Centre in Mullaghbane is a centre rich in traditional music, song and dance, Irish language, drama and literature.
  • Ballykeel Dolmen is near Mullaghbane at the western foot of Slieve Gullion. It is an outstanding example of a Portal Tomb. The dolmen is made up of two portal stones with a sill between and a lower backstone supporting a huge capstone.

  • Accordionist Martin Quinn comes from a long line of singers and raconteurs based in Mullaghbane. He is currently a member of the band Dorsa whose repertoire is steeped in the music of Ulster.
