Mukesh Khandelwal was born in Calcutta (now known as Kolkata) in 1976. Born to a businessman Radheshyam Khandelwal and house-wife Mani Devi, Mukesh was the fourth kid. After completing his schooling initially from Assembly of God Church School and St. James school (both in Calcutta), Mukesh went to PES college of Engineering, Mandya to pursue Bachelors in Computer Science. He joined Aztec Software in 1999 and also did a stint at Microsoft Corporation as a consultant. He moved to Sapient in Gurgaon in 2002, and worked there until 2005. In 2005, he went self-employed.

Mukesh is married to Sumita Tambi, an MBA graduate from IIM Lucknow. He has a daughter named Mehak (meaning fragrance)
