Mukdahan

Mukdahan (Thai: มุกดาหาร) is the capital of Mukdahan province, Thailand, located in the northeastern (Isan) region of the country, on the banks of the river Mekong. The population of the city was 100,000 in the year 2000. The city was founded in 1770 by Chankinnaree, the Prince of Phonsim, as a satellite town of Udon Thani. A bridge linking Mukdahan, over the Mekong, to Savannakhet, Laos is currently being built and is expected to be completed around December, 2006.
