Muhardeh (Arabic محردة ) pronounced as Mħardé, official english version Maharda a Syrian town in the Hama Governorate, it is a predominantly Christian town with about 21,000 inhabitants [1]. It is the centre of Mantiqat Muħardeh ( Mantiqa= Arabic for district), one of the governorate 5 districts.

It is located about 23 km North West of Hama on the Orontes River. A dam was built on the river 3 km north of the town known as Muħardeh dam, generating hydroelectric power of about 2,500 KW-hours.

Muħardeh dates back to the same Hellenistic period of Apamea, the most notable archaeological remnant from this period is an old temple with stone doors and columns with Corinthian capitals transformed later into a church.

It is a prosperous town, due to the high percentage of immigration among its natives outside Syria in the past especially to the Americas, nowadays to Sub-Saharan Africa.

Ghada Shouaa, the first Syrian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, was born in Muhardeh.
