Mugg & Bean
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mugg & Bean is a full-service, quick-casual, coffee-themed franchise restaurant chain originating from South Africa. Despite originating in South Africa, there is an obvious and intended influence from "American" coffee shops--most specifically, what is perceived to be "San Francisco"-style shops. Though not genuinely "American," the restaurant chain is none the less quite a good facsimile of such.
The restaurant chain was founded in 1996 by Ben Filmalter, one of South Africa's most prominent restaurateurs and a founding member of the South African Restaurant Association.
As of 2004 they had 54 outlets throughout South Africa as well as a number of overseas operations, including Great Britain and the United Arab Emirates.
They are well known for the huge portions of food that they serve. A number of their restaurants also offer Wi-Fi hotspots.
