Muaro Jambi

Muaro Jambi is a regency of Jambi, Indonesia. From 4th-13th century, it was a Hindu-Buddhism Melayu Kingdom. It has an area of 6,475 kmĀ² and population of 234,083.
The regency is divided into 6 subdistricts: Jambi Luar Kota, Kumpeh, Kumpeh Ulu, Maro Sebo, Mestong, Sekernan, and Sungai Bahar.

Muaro Jambi is also the largest archeological complex in Sumatra today. The archeological site is located some 26 km downstream from the modern capital, on the opposite bank, it has the ancient Hindu Candi and Menapo or brick-built temples and canals. Restoration of three main structures Candi Tinggi, Candi Gumpung and Candi Kedaton, the last with an unusual fill of small white river pebbles, has been completed.
