MTV Dance is a digital television channel based in the United Kingdom. The channel is MTV's dedicated dance music channel with music videos and programming of underground and mainstream dance tracks, although some of its output is R&B. Its long term, although erratically available competitior for the dance music television market in the UK & Ireland is Rapture TV. It is also available in Ireland, and on Kabel Deutschland in some areas of Germany.
MTV Dance originally started out as a programming slot on the now defunct MTV Extra. It originally timeshared with Nick Jr. and therefore was only on air between 7PM and 6AM. However, it has since gained its own channel and started broadcasting 24 hours from August 13th, 2002.
