The correct title of this page is User talk:msh210. It appears incorrectly here due to technical restrictions.
Finding myself devoting too much time to Wikipedia and correspondingly too little time to my studies, I am on indefinite break from the former. Posts to my talk page will go unread and unanswered. If you wish to contact me, my contact information is on my Web site.

If you write me something here, I will respond here. If you specifically request a response elsewhere, I may (but may not) honor that request.

I will not archive this page. If you want an archive, see its history.

[edit] Award of Thanks

I, AllyUnion (talk), hereby award User:Msh210 the WikiThanks (Wiki Thanks) award for his assistance in cleaning up the Wikipedia:Template messages/Stubs page. -- AllyUnion (talk) 23:43, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Aw, shucks. Thanks, AllyUnion, for the award. And you're very welcome: it was my pleasure. —msh210 03:08, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Sort key on your user page

Would you please captialize the first letter in the sort keys for the categories on your user page. The initial lowercase is causing your name to be the last one in all of the categories in which you appear. Thanks. – ABCD 22:53, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

I prefer to be known as msh210.msh210 03:10, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "avoid overlinking years"

For me, the real question is what's right with linking years? Usually the year links give no insight whatsoever about the topic of the page, and simply creates unsightly blue links that draw attention to relatively unimportant details. This is not a universally accepted view, so I certainly wouldn't edit war over it. I also don't edit only to remove year links, but I often remove them if I do other cleanup on a page. See WP:MOS#Partial dates and the relevant talk page for discussion. I am of the opinion that links to years are rarely useful to the reader. "Smith earned a PhD in mathematics in 1982" — this is good info, but what possible benefit does the reader gain from the year link? 165.189.91.148 15:14, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

WP:MOS#Dates agrees with you, but I don't. Since the MOS is (in theory) built on consesnsus, I'll ignore my views when editing henceforth. The reasons I don't agree, though, are:
  1. The date link allows one to see what else happened that year.
  1. The Special:Whatlinkshere page for the date allows one to see what else happened that year.
And I don't agree with your statement that the extra links are "unsightly".
Thanks for your response.—msh210 18:05, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] afd on Shiny Shoe Music

Thanks for the notification. The only thing I did to that article was to disambiguate Hebrew language, but I'm inclined to agree with your analysis. Cheers, Tomertalk 20:04, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

I think the afd has drawn about as much attention as it's going to. It was relisted today, and hasn't drawn even one additional comment--primarily, I presume, because people aren't disinterested, but don't know enough about the subject to register an opinion one way or the other. I would guess that practically every editor of the article other than me, since I only showed up to fix an imperfect wikilink, would vote "keep" if they realized the "importance" of AfD. I think at this point, if you'll take my counsel, the best course of action is for you to formally withdraw the request for AfD consideration, so that we can move on to considering what the article should be named instead. I consider that discussion "conclusive" w/in the AfD discussion, but if you want to discuss it further, the place for that is on the article's talkpage, not on AfD. [edit] Fair use images in lists

Hello, I see you have contributed your thoughts to Wikipedia talk:Fair use/Fair use images in lists. It's been dead for a while, but I have archived it and taken a new fresh start. I hope this time we will be able to achieve something as I have summarized the main points of both sides (feel free to improve them) and I call you to express your support or oppose on the concrete proposal that I have formulated. Thanks, Renata 02:33, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
