[edit] Primary Information about Mr. 3
As being a noted artist of the way of strategy, Mr. 3 prides himself that his plans are supposedly flawless, and was ordered to kill the Straw Hat Pirates and decided to claim the bounty on Dorry and Broggy as well on Little Garden. He utterly messes with a sacred battle between the two giants and then captures Vivi, Nami, and Zoro, creating a huge, spinning wax cake with his Doru Doru no Mi (ドルドルの実, Wax Wax Fruit) to rain wax down upon them, the desired effect being that the three will slowly be encased in wax, and suffocate to death. This would also give Mr. 3 human wax statues, as he admits he has trouble making human wax figures himself. He doesn’t count on Luffy and Usopp's determination to save their friends, however, and in the end is defeated along with three other Baroque Works Officer Agents (Miss Goldenweek, Mr. 5, and Miss Valentine).
However he does make another appearance in the Alabasta Arc trying to report to Sir Crocodile that the Straw Hats are alive. But Crocodile, infuriated with Mr. 3’s uselessness and audacity to approach him, absorbs most of the water in his body, and tosses him to the bananawani (crocodiles with banana-shaped growths on their heads) where he is supposedly eaten.
By creating a wax shield around himself, called the Doru Doru Ball (Wax Wax Ball), he survives. Happening upon a crisis the heroes are in with a locked cage, a room filling with water, and Bananadiles (a trap set by Crocodile) as well as finding the key the heroes need. As revenge, he disposes of the key. However, Usopp comes up with the idea of forcing him to use his Doru Doru power and make a duplicate of the cage’s key. Sanji wasted no time in doing so by beating him up (in the 4Kids dub, Mr. 3 creates the key because Sanji promised to laugh at one of his jokes). It's still unknown how Sanji defeated Mr.3 so easily (Most fans believe it's because the room Mr.3 and the strawhats were in was filled up with a lot of water, making Mr. 3 weaker due to his Devil Fruit abilities).
Mr. 3 makes another appearance in a Mini Arc (Operation: Meet Baroque). His Doru Doru Ship is seen, and although unshaven, he still sports his trademark hair. Mr. 3 is then somehow caught and is sent to Impel Down with Mr.'s 0,1, and 2. In his jail picture, he is seen crying.
In the English dub, the entire Little Garden Arc is cut out and all references to it are removed, so Mr. 3's part is greatly downplayed, making his first major appearance when he confronts Crocodile at Rain Dinners. In this version, he has been following the Straw Hats since Roguetown and is punished by Crocodile because he didn't attack them. This creates a plot hole as Baroque Works did not learn about the Straw Hats until after the crew entered the Grand Line, while Loguetown is in East Blue, and at the time Vivi had not joined them which creates another plot hole as Crocodile says that Vivi was with them at the time. He is also given a comedic side in the English dub, where he is almost constantly cracking bad jokes, such as "I just flew in, and boy are my arms tired." This is probably because his partner's dubbed name is Miss April Fool's Day.
Mr. 3 is partnered with Miss Goldenweek, giving the "3" team the artistic idea.
[edit] Mr. 3's Attacks
Note: many more images for Mr. 3's attacks shall soon be added.
- Candle Jacket: Mr. 3 creates shackles of wax to pin an enemy to the ground.
- Candle Lock: Mr. 3 binds his opponent's limbs with a bar of his wax.
- Tokudai Candle Set (Big Candle Set): Mr. 3 creates a giant birthday cake with a tower with jack-o-lantern topped with candles on top. After he traps his enemies on a side of the cake, the candles ignite and the jack-o-lantern spins, showering wax down upon them. If left this way for long enough the enemies will become encased as wax statues, and knocking the jack-o-lantern down will only speed up the process.
- Doru Doru Arts: Tekase (Handcuff): (Anime Only) If Candle Jacket fails to restrain an enemy, Mr. 3 can further pin them after they've been knocked back down by coating their hands and feet in wax. For good measure he can then drive giant wax stakes through said limbs to ensure their immobility.
- Doru Doru Arts: Wall: Mr. 3 creates a wall of wax between himself and an attacking opponent to shield himself.
- Doru Doru Arts: Yari (Harpoon): Mr. 3 makes a harpoon out of wax and hurls it at an enemy.
- Doru Doru Arts: Ken (Sword): (Manga only) Mr. 3 makes a sword out of his wax to attack his opponent or to pin a giant enemy's limbs down.
- Doru Doru Arts: Candle Champion: Mr. 3 encases himself in a giant suit of armor made from his own wax and painted by Miss Goldenweek. This armor provides ample protection against attacks but not against fire.
- Champ Fight: Plowing the Field: In Candle Champion mode, Mr. 3 charges along the ground while swinging his armor's arms like wheels to try to pummel his opponent with its fists.
- Doru Doru Mansion: Mr. 3 creates a large number of wax statues of himself in a large area and hides amongst them. When an opponent enters the area and wanders around trying to tell which one to attack he will then attack him/her with a dagger once they turn their back to him.
- Doru Doru Ship: Mr. 3 makes a ship out of his wax.
- Doru Doru Arts: Ball: When he thinks he's in immediate danger, Mr. 3 encases himself in a ball of his own wax for protection.
