MPEG encoding
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
MPEG encoding is the process of converting video to the MPEG format for distribution or for archiving on to DVD. MPEG encoding can be done purely in software or by using an MPEG encoding card or a video editing card with in-built MPEG encoding facilities.
There are 4 types of MPEG encoding used. MPEG-1 is used for video encoding, MPEG-2 can be used for video or audio encoding, MPEG-3 or MP3 is used for audio encoding, and MPEG-4 or MP4 (DivX) is used for compressing video and audio.
