Moycullen (Maigh Cuilinn inMoycullen is a small town about 10km (7mi) north west of Galway city. It is located near Lough Corrib, on the N59 road to Oughterard and Clifden in Connemara. Although nominally part of the Gaeltacht (Gaelic speaking region), little Gaelic is spoken among the inhabitants of Moycullen. Its Irish name, Maigh Cuilinn, means Plain of Holly, or Plain of Cullen (a local giant), depending on who is asked.
Moycullen is now a relatively prosperous and young satellite town of Galway with most residents commuting to the city for work, school, university and commercial reasons. It is the location of a marble crafter, a crystal cutters, and a number of restaurants (including The White Gables and Moycullen House). Well-known pubs include Hurney's, The Forge, The Ferryman and Regan's, which is the oldest pub in the village.
The town is mentioned in Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist.
