Movement of United Communists

Movement of United Communists (in Italian: Movimento dei Comunisti Unitari) was a political party in Italy.
MCU emerged through a split from the Communist Refoundation Party (PRC) in 1995. MCU was founded on June 14. Leaders of the new party were Lucio Magri and Sergio Garavini (secretary of PRC). 15 PRC MPs joined MCU.
The split was caused over differences of opinion on which policy should be held towards the possibility of supporting a centre-left government. MCU MPs votes in favour of the Lamberto Dini government, saving it from being defeated in a vote of confidence.
On February 13 1998 MCU merged into the new Democrats of the Left (DS) party. Magri did not join the new party, and left politics instead.
