Move It

"Move It" was the first hit single by British pop/rock music legend Cliff Richard. Released in October 1958, it was originally the 'B' side to the less than inspiring 'Schoolboy Crush'.

The song was heard by producer Jack Good who insisted that if Cliff Richard was to appear on his TV show Oh Boy, he would have to sing Move It. The record was flipped, and climbed to number 2 in the charts, starting Cliff Richard on his way to becoming Britain's most successful solo pop singer, still recording and having top 10 success six decades later.

Move it was written atop a red London Double-decker bus on the way to the recording studio by Drifters (later The Shadows) guitarist Ian "Sammy" Samwell. He later went on to produce, and write the first hit single for The Small Faces 'Whatcha gonna do about it'.

A second verse was written by Samwell for the Hank Marvin album Hank plays Cliff in 1995, with Cliff Richard once more providing the vocals. Since then, Cliff has always performed the song with its new extra verse.

By December 2006 the track had been re-recorded with Brian May of Queen and Brian Bennett of The Shadows, becoming his Christmas release of the year, as part of the doube 'A' side '21st Century Christmas', once again, Move It's chart entry was on the second track of the CD single, and on the vinyl, the 'B' Side.
