From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MOVIEplex is a US pay TV network which features motion pictures. It is a spinoff of the Encore movie channel and is owned by Starz Entertainment Group (formerly Starz Encore Group), a division of Liberty Media.

MOVIEplex broadcasts various programming from Encore's theme channels 7 days a week with a different channel showcased each day.

The channels shown include:

  • Encore Love airing on Mondays
  • Encore Drama airing on Tuesdays and Saturdays
  • Encore Westerns airing on Wednesdays
  • Encore Action airing on Thursdays
  • Encore Mystery airing on Fridays
  • Encore WAM! airing on Sundays

Programming on MOVIEplex is shown on a one hour delay from its presentation on the Encore channel. While MOVIEplex programming is a one-hour delayed broadcast, as of earlier this year junctions feature MOVIEplex-specific promotions and interstitials.

It replaced Intro Television (originally called TV Network). Intro showed blocks of programming from other channels.

[edit] 2006 Expansion

On April 4, 2006 at midnight (EST), MOVIEplex became a multiplex service of its own when Starz Entertainment Group launched two companion channels, Indieplex and Retroplex. The first movie aired on Indieplex was Wim Wenders' "Paris, Texas" and Retroplex launched with Samuel Fuller's "Pickup on South Street". The channels are currently available only on Comcast Digital Cable. Unlike MOVIEplex, these channels are not delayed rebroadcasts of Encore or Starz programming.

Additionally, earlier in 2006 MOVIEplex launched a video on demand component, free for Comcast Digital subscribers. The station also underwent a rebranding earlier in the year, modernizing its logo and presentation to fit in better with the Starz Encore look yet still remaining unique.
