Moutier is a town in the Canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in an area called Bernese Jura (Jura Bernois in French), which sits between the Canton of Jura and the German-speaking part of the Canton of Bern. The people of Moutier speak French, although the Canton of Bern is mostly German-speaking. Moutier's population is estimated to 8'000. The German name for the town is Münster, but it is not frequently used.
Moutier's area is called The Prévôté. It is a valley crossed by a river, called The Birse. Mountains are all around Moutier, and they are dug by water.
The mechanical industry has a large part in the life of Moutier. The area has a lot of factories. They develop and produce high precision machine tools, automation and machining. Moutier is recognized as being a world leader in precision making.
