Mount Pleasant Winery

Mount Pleasant Winery is a winery in Augusta, Missouri, founded in 1859 by the brothers Georg and Friedrich Muench, who chose this area because it reminded them of their home country Germany. It closed during Prohibition, and reopened in 1966, being the second winery in the state to open in the current era.. It has the second-largest wine production in the state, and produces estate bottled wines. In 1980, the Augusta Appellation became the first American Viticultural Area declared by the United States government.
The winery is situated on a south-facing bluff overlooking the Missouri River Valley, and consists of 85 acres of vines growing 16 varieties of grapes. The winery has constructed a public winegarden and terraces that use this view to good advantage.
The winery produces Port wine, Sparkling wine, and well as various red and white table wines, with sweet, semi-dry and dry styles. Grape varietes include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chardonel, St. Vincent, Couderc Noir, Vidal Blanc, Seyval Blanc, Rayon, Merlot, and Norton. The wines have won numerous international awards. Its highest rating in Wine Enthusiast magazine was 92 points for its 1994 Belle Yvonne Bordeaux Blend.
