Mount Michael Benedictine High School is a college preparatory, five-day residential and day school school for young men, owned and operated by the Benedictine monks of Mount Michael Abbey. Mount Michael is Nebraska's premier college prep high school. Ninety-nine percent of the graduates attend college and roughly seventy-three percent of them receive scholarships. Over the past 5 years Mount Michael has averaged a 27 on the ACT. The school is located on 400 acres of wooded rolling hills, 10 miles west of Omaha. A majority of the 173 (140 boarders, 33 day) students in grades 9-12 come from a 100-mile radius of the campus. Mount Michael's purpose is to provide a stimulating atmosphere for spiritual, emotional, and intellectual growth. The outstanding faculty is approximately half monks and half lay people. Due to the dedication of the monastic community, Mount Michael is one of the great bargains in education. The tuition is comparable to the cost of tuition at most local private schools. This, however, does not cover the costs of room, board, books, and meals which are also charged to students. Once all of these factors are considered, the total is quite frequently over ten thousand dollars.
