Mount Meager

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mount Meager is a dormant stratovolcano with at least 8 vents, located 150 km north of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Mount Meager had a large eruption about 2350 years ago that was simular to the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980. The eruption is one of the youngest explosive eruptions in the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt and in Canada.

[edit] Hazards of Mount Meager

Past eruptions at Mount Meager were Plinian style eruptions which suggests that Mount Meager poses a significant treat to long distances across southern British Columbia, southern Alberta and Pemberton, which is only about 50 km from the volcano. Lahars could travel as far as Pemberton. Another Plinian style eruption from Mount Meager would also have a significant impact on local mining and logging.
