Mount Marathon Race

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mount Marathon Race is an annual race that takes place in Seward, Alaska. The race consists of a run up and down Mount Marathon. The race has been in existence since at least 1915 and is run on the Fourth of July.

The event began when a local bartender back in 1915 claimed to some of his patrons that he could run to the top of what is now Mount Marathon and back in less than an hour. He did it in 62 minutes and the event has occurred ever since.
