Mount Joy Township is a township in northwestern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,944 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 72.4 km² (28.0 mi²), all land.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 7,944 people, 2,896 households, and 2,287 families residing in the township. The population density was 109.7/km² (284.1/mi²). There were 2,947 housing units at an average density of 40.7/km² (105.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.14% White, 0.25% African American, 0.14% Native American, 1.07% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.72% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.38% of the population.

There were 2,896 households out of which 37.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.1% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.0% were non-families. 16.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.10.

In the township the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.7 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $52,410, and the median income for a family was $57,019. Males had a median income of $38,295 versus $28,294 for females. The per capita income for the township was $22,380. About 1.6% of families and 3.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.0% of those under age 18 and 3.6% of those age 65 or over.
