Mount Joy is a borough in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,765 at the 2000 census.

Mount Joy is located at 40°6′36″N, 76°30′40″W (40.109895, -76.510977)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.3 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 6,765 people, 2,839 households, and 1,865 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,111.5/km² (2,884.7/mi²). There were 2,957 housing units at an average density of 485.8/km² (1,260.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 95.71% White, 1.48% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 1.14% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.09% of the population.

There were 2,839 households out of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.3% were non-families. 27.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.89.

In the borough the population was spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $45,127, and the median income for a family was $52,156. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,485 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $21,391. About 5.1% of families and 7.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.9% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those age 65 or over.
